Using Alcohol Alternative to have Just as Much Fun

30 May

Alcohol AlternativesGoing to the bar with your friends, but you don’t want to get drunk and have to deal with a serious hangover in the morning? There are alcohol alternatives that may be of interest to you. By considering your choices, you don’t have to be afraid to go and have fun with your friends. Social drinking is a part of life for many people.

There’s nothing wrong with responsible drinking, but some people for various reasons may not want to indulge. Maybe you’re on a diet, or you’re doing it for health reasons. Perhaps you just want to have a few drinks, but the night is long and the fun has only begun. So what are some good alcohol alternatives?

Alcohol-free beer is one such option. There are many beer companies who make an alcohol-free version of beer. Many of these are quite tasty, if you’re into the taste of beer. It has even given some people a type of placebo effect. They’ve felt a slight buzz from drinking the non-alcoholic beer, despite there being no alcohol in it. They even come in the same kind of beer bottle look and feel; so that when you drink it at the bar you don’t stand out from the rest of your friends.

Non-alcoholic beer can be one of the great alcohol alternatives for those who do want to drink at social gatherings, but don’t want to over indulge. You could drink one non-alcoholic beer for every regular beer. Or you could drink a cup of water for every beer you consume. This will fill up your stomach and also hydrate you. One of the big side effects of excessive alcohol consumption is dehydration and that can seriously affect your health.

If you’re at the bar or at a party, you could also order a drink that comes in the same cup as an ordinary mixed drink. Ginger ale and tonic water with a wedge of lemon or lime on the side looks a lot like Gin and Ale. Or you could order a “gin and juice” without the gin and just the orange juice. It’s all about perception in the social drinking setting. Your friends will soon be inebriated enough to not really notice that you’re just drinking orange juice.

Lastly, you could just outright refuse to drink anything with alcohol in it. Having plenty of bottled water available is a good alcohol alternative and definitely a good idea if you’re the designated driver. You could still join in with your friends in actually having a drink with you to hold in your hands or to have at your table with everyone else.

The alcohol alternatives discussed here are by no means exhaustive of the options available. While it may not be that difficult for you to stop drinking on your own, in social settings it can be a great challenge.  There are many more, but the basic ones have been covered here and this should be a good starting point for you.

What Everyone Ought to Know About Electronic Cigarette Dangers

23 May

Electronic Cigarette DangersWith the smoking ban spreading to many areas of the country, people are turning to new alternatives and are not aware of electronic cigarette dangers that could cause them problems. Electronic cigarettes are tiny battery operated vaporizers that contain liquid nicotine in them. There is no smoke and no smell associated with it. It has been touted as a safe and healthy alternative to smoking, but there is a reason the FDA did not approve this yet.

One of the reasons that the FDA has been so cautious about electronic cigarette dangers is because toxins such as Diethylene Glycol have been found in them. This is another name for anti-freeze! Yes, anti-freeze is inhaled and one of the major side effects of using electronic cigarettes. In haling anti-freeze not only can cause lung and throat cancer, but can also cause severe brain damage.

Nitrosamines are also risky chemicals found in these types of products. If the vaporizer body is dropped or damaged, the liquid toxins could ooze out and cause serious health risks to the user’s skin, eyes, lips or facial area. This is definitely not something to take lightly, as facial burns or scars can cause a life time of trauma.

Because there is no age limit on purchasing these products, young children and teenagers have been using them as well. Many have found ways to disguise them as pens and use them while going to school or on the school bus. Parents have been voicing concerns about electronic cigarette dangers, because in effect their children are inhaling dangerous chemicals that can cause permanent brain damage.

They have found it very difficult to shield their children from these dangerous risks, because these things can easily be hidden in their school supplies. As of yet, there is no law to prevent the sale to minors. This makes it all the more difficult to protect our youth from this growing trend.

Experts have stated that one of the main electronic cigarette dangers is that these products actually increase tobacco use instead of helping to curb it. The person still gets their nicotine fix satisfied via the liquid nicotine in the vaporizer. Even if the person wants to cut back, the electronic cigarette units are not reliable as to how much nicotine they release in a given drag. Some people have reported even getting the liquid accidentally into their mouths while using it. So there is no way to really know for sure if you’re decreasing your nicotine use or not.

Electronic cigarette dangers are severe enough to make the FDA think twice about approving the product. Obviously, with the delivery of nicotine, cravings are eliminated, but the problem of addiction still looms. Then there’s the problem of the added toxins like the anti-freeze chemicals that come with electronic cigarette smoke that could also cause cancer and other fatal diseases. Thus, one may need to seek other, healthier and safer ways to quit smoking than to use electronic cigarettes.

Who Else Wants Smoking Ban Alternatives?

16 May

Smoking Ban AlternativeSince the ban on smoking in many places all over the world, there has been an interest in talking about smoking ban alternatives. The whole idea behind a smoking ban is that while smokers can enjoy their cigarettes, others around them have to inhale the toxic chemicals associated with second-hand smoke.

Employees and other workers in the restaurants of the past had to risk their health and lives in order to work for a living. People, like waiters, waitresses, and servers died of cancer that never smoked, but had to work around smokers on a long-term basis. The smell of tobacco smoke also had no bias as to who it floated to in public places, such as bars and restaurants. As a result, many areas around the globe have instituted a ban and some law makers are even considering alternatives to outright banning.

In our society, we value the freedom to have a choice. This is a challenge when you’re dealing with something like tobacco smoke. While on one hand, we want everyone to have the freedom to smoke or not, we also want everyone to have the freedom to risk their health or not.

One of those smoking ban alternatives is to give pubs and bars the choice to ban smoking or not. Bars and pubs are the very places associated with drinking and smoking. While on one hand, employees and service workers in the pubs and bars are exposed to cancer causing agents, the very nature of the business is one that has a large number of smokers as their customers.

A second proposition and solution could be to have businesses prove a 3 month decrease in revenue. Business income reports could be used to prove that a ban on smoking has seriously affected this business owner’s profits. If they show more than a certain amount of decrease, then this pub or bar should be able to have smoking allowed, granted they advise their employees of the risk.

Another smoking ban alternative could be to use proper ventilation systems that should be put in place, so that the pub or bar can have separate sections for smokers and for non-smokers. Perhaps there could be a patio area made that is outside for the smokers to enjoy.

Consider e-cigarettes or smoke-less cigarettes. These are small vaporizers that are made in the shape of a cigarette. The tobacco is contained in a small cap within the e-cigarette and the person simply turns it on and takes a puff. There is no smoke and the nicotine craving is satisfied.

We should all have the choice to do something, whether it is good or bad for us. At the same time, we now have to deal with giving choices that do not infringe on other people’s choices. Forcing people to do something, just because it is for their own good is unethical to say the least. Taking a good look at various smoking ban alternatives can bring a happy medium to all.

Little Known Tobacco Alternatives

9 May

Tobacco AlternativeHave you been trying to quit smoking and you’re looking for tobacco alternatives? Quitting smoking is not easy, especially if you’ve been smoking for several years. Your doctor may have warned you about the health risks of continuing smoking, and some people just don’t have much time left to debate on whether or not they want to quit.  The root of smoking addictions is all about a psychological dependence.

In some the psychological dependence goes so far as to the moment when they smell the cigarette, light one and take that first drag of the day. They aren’t just addicted to the tobacco, but also to the act of smoking itself. This, sometimes, poses a problem with the person trying to quit the smoking habit. The focus is on the physical act of quitting without giving the person something else to fill that void so to speak. A good tobacco alternative can help a person to eventually quit smoking all together.

While the tobacco industry has been fighting with the health industry for our consumer dollars, the tobacco alternatives industry has steadily been booming. No longer do people have to quit smoking “cold turkey”, but now they can wean themselves off tobacco, by seeking another alternative. These don’t contain nicotine or any of the harmful chemicals that tobacco-based products carry. They not only can help you deal with the physical cravings for tobacco, but also can help you with the whole psychological fix too. Just like real cigars, you can light up the alternative.

So what are the tobacco alternatives? One alternative is “wild dagga” or Lion’s Tail. Just a small pinch of “wild dagga” will be enough to put you into a nice calm and euphoric state of mind. It can calm the nerves and also have a slight pain control effect as well. This is great for coming home from a hard day’s work or just something right after dinner. It’s quite delicious and easy on the breathing.

Another great choice is blue lotus. This can help you deal with the physical cravings of tobacco withdrawal. It will put you in a state of mild euphoria and is great anxiety reliever. Although the effects are very strong, they are not enough to impair you to non-functionality.

It’s not just smokers that can enjoy a wide variety of choices. Those who use smokeless tobacco, such as snuff can also enjoy more choices when quitting the habit. For those who do use snuff or chewing tobacco, a great tobacco alternative is called Bacc-Off. It is a smokeless chew that is made from Mint or tea leaves. It has no tobacco or any nicotine in it and it is FDA approved. It is a great alternative to the traditional snuff, because it has the texture, taste and look of the original.

Herbal cigarettes can also be a good tobacco alternative and aid in helping to kick the smoking habit. These cigarettes are made out of a variety of herbs designed to help one relax and get a slight buzz. They don’t contain any nicotine or tobacco, and the feeling is not quite the same as from a cigarette, but it cut the edge off those nicotine withdrawals tremendously. They also have an herbal aroma to them, so you won’t be getting the usual cigarette smell in your hair and clothes.

There are many more tobacco alternatives available, and these are just a handful that has been mentioned. You can do a basic search on the Internet to find what’s right for you, or you can even visit your local smoke shops and ask questions about the alternatives that they may be carrying in the store.  Whatever you decide to choose, you can use these healthier choices to help you taper your smoking down and then eventually quit the habit all together.
